There are many types of blinds and curtains available to choose from, and the type that’s right for you will depend on your aesthetic, light control, and privacy preferences. Before you start shopping, it’s important to accurately measure the depth (or projection) of your bay window to ensure a proper fit. Measure the distance between the inside edges of the frame at the top, middle, and bottom and record these measurements. This will help you find the correct projection length when ordering your bay window blinds.

Once you’ve chosen your blinds, it’s time to start planning the installation. If you’re mounting your bay window blinds outside of the frame, use a bar or spirit level to mark the screw holes evenly. Then, use a drill to pre-drill the screw holes and anchors if necessary.

If you’re mounting your bay window blinds inside the frame, measure each side of the window and add 1 cm to both measurements for extra clearance. Use these marks to mark the position of your brackets on the window frame. If desired, you can also use a pencil to draw straight lines where the headrail will sit and use a spirit level or bar to check your markings are straight before drilling.
