Microdose Chocolate Mushrooms

The psychedelic compound psilocybin is seeing new interest, with research showing promise for easing anxiety and reducing symptoms of PTSD and trauma. One popular way to consume psilocybin is through “mushroom chocolate.” These edibles combine psychedelic mushrooms with cocoa and other ingredients for a psychedelic-inspired treat. However, the FDA has warned that this type of product can lead to serious illness and hospitalization.

In the 3 Amigos example of the mushroom edibles craze, a Utah man started convulsing in his hospital room after consuming a “microdose” chocolate bar. His story caught the attention of Michael Moss, medical director of the state’s poison control center. He began to hear reports from other poison centers around the country, with patients experiencing nausea, vomiting, agitation and seizures after consuming a Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bar, cone or gummy marketed as “microdose mushrooms.”

The FDA is warning people not to eat these products and to discard any they have. It says that they contain psilocybin, which can cause serious health problems if consumed in large enough doses. Psilocybin can cause hallucinations, a sense of disorientation and loss of control, and increased heart rate.

The exact effects of psilocybin-infused chocolate can vary from person to person, and it may take time for some to feel the effects of the substance. But frequent use of this product can lead to psychological dependence and can also be dangerous for those with existing mental health conditions or underlying health concerns.
